Elsa nodded as Anna was hidden from her view. ”….I-I didn’t mean to hurt her. S-She just wanted to build a snowman.” She mumbled, closing her eyes. She hadn’t meant for things to go so wrong. ”….Will me and Anna be able to play again?” She asked, frightened eyes looking up at her mother. She had many questions, but knew her mother couldn’t answer all of them.

“Shh, no need for explanations, darling, I know you didn’t mean this. You love Anna very much; it was just an accident.”
How Idun wished this was just another childhood accident that could be fixed by a kiss and a cuddle. But it wasn’t. Anna felt as cold as ice, and if it weren’t for her shallow breathing and weak pulse, one might think she were dead.
“Of course you will, Elsa,” she murmured, offering the best smile she could, cupping the child’s face. Such promises should not be made, not until there was a definite answer, but if she could provide even the tiniest slither of hope, she would. “Of course you will.”

Elsa let out a bretah of relief, only to take it in more harshly at her mother’s smile. She wasn’t afraid. She wasn’t frozen. Elsa broke into a small smile accompanied by nervous laughter, her own eyes watering as she stepped forward. ”I missed you.”

Fear was never a part of the equation when it came to Idun’s feelings towards her eldest daughter. She could fear for her, but never be fearful of her, not ever. And as Elsa stepped forward, she wanted to take her in her arms–but she didn’t. She would let the blonde move at her own rate. “And I you, my darling. I have missed you so much.”
“…I-I have.” She admitted after a moment, sighing quietly as she relaxed. "Mama…why?“ She asked, looking up from the floor at her mother nervously. She wanted to know why she’d been hidden away for so long, forced into isolation for nearly her entire life.

"I can’t pretend to know what has made you father keep the gates closed this long,” the Queen murmured, keeping up the gentle rub. “But it was because of that vision we were shown, when that crowd attacked. He’s frightened, love, but in his fear, he has done you no favours. And I did try to fight back against him, but he doesn’t listen to me,”

Elsa nodded slightly, sniffling as she looked over at Anna, her eyes still closed as they had been. ”I-Is Anna gonna be okay?” She asked quietly, lip still quivering. It had been a last ditch effort to save her sister from hurting herself, but their parents hadn’t been around to see that. ”I-Is Papa mad at me?”

Noticing the direction of Elsa’s view, Idun brought the child’s head to rest against her chest, hoping to hide the sight of that unconscious little form from view. It certainly wouldn’t help for the blonde to look for too long.
“We hope so, sweetheart,” she murmured after pressing a kiss to the top of Elsa’s head. The second question caught her a bit off guard. “No, no, love, of course not,” she soothed, smoothing some of the little thing’s hair. “He’s just worried–for both of you. I’m sorry he sounded cross with you.”

Elsa hesitated for a moment, taking a few steps back before inching forward slowly, forcing herself to stay calm. Reaching a shaky hand out, she placed one on her mother’s shoulder, biting her lip. ”M-Mama…”

Perhaps it was better than Elsa had touched her first. Idun stared in shock for a moment, before her face broke out in the most delighted smile, the Queen forced to blink back tears. Even such a tiny thing–it was a step in the right direction. “Please, my love. Please.”
She jumped slightly at the gesture, having forgotten about her gloves for a moment. ”W-What am I supposed to do? I-I can’t make it go away, I can’t make it stop.” She said, her free hand curling into an anxious fist at her side.

“And staying in here has done nothing good for you,” the Queen murmured, keeping a grasp on Elsa’s hand while she still could. Her thumb rubbed over the back, hoping to soothe her a little. “Have you truly not noticed that things got worse once you started staying in here for longer?”

Elsa sniffled slightly at her mother’s touch, turning around to face her, tears in her eyes. ”M-Mama, i-it was an accident. S-She just wanted to play. I-I couldn’t catch h-her fast e-enough.” She cried, hiding her face in her mother’s shoulder. ”I-I’m sorry, I-I’m sorry..” She repeated, shaking slightly.

“Oh, I know it was, my love, I know,” Idun said, rubbing Elsa’s back, hoping to calm her. Sitting back on her heels, the Queen brought Elsa down onto her lap so she could sit. With one arm remaining about the Princess’ shoulders, her other hand brushed away those tears. “Hush now, Elsa, it’s all right. We’re going to find someone to help, don’t worry, little one."

"Then don’t, Elsa,“ Idun replied, reaching forward, wanting desperately to take her child into her arms but knowing she would be rejected. "Love, just come back to us, please.”
Elsa had to stop and think for a moment about her response. ”Mama, I….I don’t know how.” She said quietly, her eyes full of fear.

“That doesn’t matter, sweetheart, not to me,” the Queen replied, taking one of Elsa’s gloved hands in her own. “Being in here is doing nothing good for you.”

While Anna was laying on a sofa in the entrance hall, a thick blanket wrapped around her, Idun turned her attention to her eldest daughter. Still stood where her father had placed her before he ran off to find a map, the Queen stood from the couch and knelt down before her, pulling the blonde into her arms.
"It’ll be all right, my love,“ she murmured, cupping the back of Elsa’s head, her other arm wrapping tightly around her. "It’ll be all right.”
